Jiggery-Pokery

     E. Rochelle Potter considers the entire world her home because she suffers an acute case of wanderlust and has an insatiable (if unrealistic) desire to see it all. Born in Albany, NY, she was moved often, attending four different elementary schools in three different states before graduating high school in Pennsylvania. Life is ever-evolving. Currently, a more accurate geographic pinpoint is her apartment in Ballston Spa, NY where she resides with her daughter and light of her life, Aurian.

     E. Rochelle is a member of the National Honor Society, won a Certificate of Merit from the New York State Assembly, holds an A.S. in Performing Arts, placed in the top 10 finalists of the 2019 Ink and Insights novel contest, and is a life-long member of the W.H.S. Reading Group (So many books, we make time!)

Aside from writing and reading she enjoys kayaking, crafting, video games, theater and films. She has a love-hate relationship with the concept of sleep because while she’s been inspired by dreams in the past, twenty-four hours in a day simply are not enough!

Fun Facts

Similar to my personality, there is no rhyme or reason to this list. Everything here is true, though it may not make much sense but that’s hardly the point. Included here are random facts about me that I thought might at least be entertaining if they serve no other purpose.

  • I am a twin. Because of this I have a notebook that I keep for story ideas that says, “I’m my evil twin” on the cover. If you ask any of the kids I went to school with, they would probably tell you it should read “I’m the evil twin.”

  • I have an unhealthy obsession with Doctor Who. It is probably THE most brilliantly-written show of all time! Besides DVDs, I also own T-shirts (my fave says "Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey--identify the speaker and you'll know my favorite Doctor) Christmas ornaments, even my own sonic screwdriver and whenever I gain weight, I joke about needing Adipose.

  • You will rarely catch me wearing “normal” socks. Knee socks with fun patterns are my go-to footwear of choice. This makes me very easy to please at Christmastime. New knee socks make me positively giddy! (Have I mentioned already that I’m really just a child masquerading in an adult’s body?)

  • As mentioned briefly on the main page, I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan. Thank you J.K. Rowling for giving us such an amazing world!

  • Steve Irwin was my childhood hero. I never missed an episode of "The Crocodile Hunter" or any of the subsequent spin-offs of that show if I could help it. I once planned on becoming a wildlife veterinarian and moving to Australia to work with him at Australia Zoo. His death was literally the death of a childhood dream. I would still love to visit his zoo someday and meet his family. They definitely left a lasting impact on me and I have all the respect in the world for what they do.

  • I love playing The SIMS and I'm such a dork that I'm creating a neighborhood based off characters in a book series I'm writing.

  • I spend an inordinate amount of time talking to myself. I blame this on spending a good portion of my time alone with only animals as living company…unless you want to count the houseplants. Some studies have indicated talking to oneself is a sign of higher intelligence and others argue that vocalization of one’s internal monologue is a sign of insanity, I can’t really dispute either claim. As far as I’m concerned: We’re all here, because we’re not all there.

  • My high school had an array of activity clubs. You could only join two and naturally my first pick was drama club. A more unique offering, however, was the Civil War Club. While many of the teachers present during my time at WHS were wonderful people, Captain Bailey was fascinating with his astonishing wealth of knowledge on this subject. The club was living history, providing an opportunity for students to join a professional reenactment group. Being the tomboy that I was, I didn't want to portray a lady in skirts and was granted the privilege of enlisting as a private in Cushing's Battery A, 4th U.S. Light Artillery. We traveled from Virginia to upstate New York to reenact battles and bring educational demonstrations to other schools. I miss the smell of gunpowder and firing the canons.

  • When I was a teenager, I was inspired by the concept of Joe Hardy's (from The Hardy Boys) "Empire State Building Sandwiches" and concocted my own version--literally every meat cheese and sandwich-friendly veggie I could find in the fridge!
